Thursday nights

I know it's been a long day at the Gilbert house when I have put all 3 kids to bed by 6:50. I LOVE that it's just now 7:24pm and my kitchen is cleaned up from dinner, my kids are in bed and everything is quiet. Another thing to love is that it's Thursday. Thursday nights have always been a favorite for me because......
Eric always works on Thursday nights so for the past 8 years I've spent those nights watching TV by myself. Really, they are the only shows I watch at all. (except for when 24 starts up again) but I love Scrubs, the office, 30 rock, ER......Usually eric walks in the house some time between 10:50 and 11:30 to find me paying bills or folding laundrey in front of the TV. He learned a while back not to try to have a conversation with me until after 11. It's not very productive.

Also I love that my work is over on Thursday night. I teach piano on Tuesdays and children's choir on Thursday afternoon. So every other night I'm getting ready for something or wrapping up the day's work. But after children's choir on Thursdays I don't really have to think about anything like that for a couple more days.....except of course for the emails....the never-ending inbox. I breath a sigh of relief when it's over.

One more thing about Thursdays: Friday morning is just around the corner. Eric is usually off on Fridays so the TRADITION is that I have the morning "off". It's "Daddy Day" in our house and the kids love it, Eric loves it and I love it. This year it's been a little different b/c emma is in school for the first time. (1st grade at Perimeter Christian School) Now he has to get more creative with having special times with Emma. Plus in our school, the parents teach on Fridays...like the teacher isn't there, the parents research and create lesson plans and generally do an incredible job teaching a science or history lesson in great detail for 3 hours.....So sometimes eric or I have to go in to school to teach, like tomorrow. But still it's different than the ordinary day and I LOVE teaching. But on an ideal Friday I would sleep in (til 7:30 or so), go to the gym, meet a friend for coffee or lunch and run some errands all by myself. Ahhhhhh......so great. I think tomorrow I'm going to write about the historical significance of my Friday mornings out.......can you stand the suspense?

OK just 19 more minutes until 8:00. Nighty night!

Peter Pan

Today we had a "Christmas Peter Pan Party" for Audrey. Her birthday's in May so it was just for fun, but she has been planning this party for a week so I decided to let her have it. She worded the invitations and decided they would dress up, watch peter pan, color and have fun. So that's what they did. 4 little girls plus audrey and poor caleb (always the only boy) were all sprawled out on the floor watching Peter Pan for an hour and a hallf. For lunch they had popcorn, string cheese, raisins and cupcakes. (with some awesome icing called MIss Molly's Frosting I got at whole foods with no hyd. oils or anything)
Now I'm going to unload the dishwasher, fold some laundry, think about cleaning my bathroom (but I probably won't get around to it) and try to sit down for at least 10 minutes before rest time is over and read a book.
